what made you want to come back and live in san francisco? >> i love cities. i never felt like i lived in a city in los angeles, but when i lived in massachusetts, where i live, i was close to boston. i had such a great time in boston but i did not like massachusetts so much because it was cold, the culture was foreign to me. when i came to san francisco, the first time i came, there was a rainbow over the bay and there was something calling me. i was 20 at the time. i knew that this was a place i needed to live. the history here, you can see it in terms of buildings, you know the history from, labor history, hit the history, history of what happened in 1978 with milk, mosconi. but i wanted to be a part of its. >> what got you involved in politics? >> i had been involved in politics for decades. i was doing work around central america, supporting people in central america, protecting against u.s. imperialism, and their right to live. i was doing a lot of work on campus in college. head of work against apartheid. i was involved in a lot of the efforts to push b

san josi nearly an inch. san francisco just about an inch and oakland 1.25". fremont just over 1.5". we're still tracking moderate to heavy rain across the region right now. all thought coverage has been decreasing on live stormtracker 2, but we're watching the santa cruz mountains with the excessive rainfall amounts. we'll check out the south bay for san josi, the darker shades evergreen and yellows reflect heavy rainfall towards milpitas and livermore, this activity just beginning to drift to the south and east. basically just a few lingering showers out towards the brentwood area and around antioch. those yellow and reds showing up around highway 4. and up in the north bay, you can pick out of the coverage backing off quite a bit, but we have some heavier downpours closer to the concord area. as far as snow, actually just snapped this picture a few minutes ago. highway 9, you can see the snow piling up. we still have a storm warning in place until 10:00 this evening. chains currently required on 80 and 50. travel will be better because cold front is heading

you can see it right off of san francisco. this low will push in that subtropical moisture and it will just unwind showers over the bay area beginning late tonight. and then we stand a chance of showers and thundershowers and especially wind. between now and tomorrow afternoon, we've got wind, gusts up to about 55. travel with caution. those wind advisories posted for the entire bay area. if you're headed for the mountains, winter storm warnings are posted. the entire sierra, three feet or more of snow above 7,000 feet. they're really taking the powder out in the sierra. mid 50's for the forecast numbers. extended forecast, i hate to tell you this, but now it looks like christmas is going to be wet. not big-time but it looks as if one final impulse comes in dead on cue on christmas day. in the extended forecast, we'll be looking for showers and thundershowers tomorrow morning. then we get a chance to dry out on christmas eve. tuesday turns wet. wednesday a few showers. thursday, friday, saturday we go to partly cloudy. finally
